Part 1B
African-American experience of 1935-1940 Picture
great_depression-African_Americans.jpg
I chose this photo because it shows the poverty that African- Americans went through during the time of 1935-1940 during the Great Depression. They were still dealing with segregation during this time and it showed because the white people were rich and lived in healthy conditions while the Negros were in poverty and unsanitary living conditions. As you can see in this photo, they sometimes didn't even have a full roof and if they did not have a roof; rain would come in and flood them. Same for snow; they would most likely die from the cold or frost bite. This is how the photo explains the quote, "You don't know what you have until you look at it and say you want more."
